Get ready for your close-up, Green Harbor. For three weeks in July, Marshfield’s Green Harbor neighborhood will be the filming site for the independent movie “The Way, Way Back” starring actor Steve Carell, who, besides being a famous film and TV star, is a part-time Marshfield resident and local business owner.
George Parra, executive producer of “The Way, Way Back,” said filming is slated to take place between July 9 and 27, primarily at one home on Bay Avenue. He said other locations in the area, including Green Harbor Beach, could be featured in the film.
Bay Avenue residents said members of the production crew have already started visiting the neighborhood, to inform locals about the filming schedule and to search for space to house crew members and store equipment. Patti Armstrong, 56, a resident of Bay Avenue, said she, her husband and their 20-year-old son would be thrilled to meet Carell.
“We’re big ‘Office’ fans,” Armstrong said, referring to the hit NBC-TV comedy “The Office,” in which Carell starred from 2005 to 2011. The funnyman has also appeared in the popular films “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Anchor Man.”
Carell, 49, who grew up in Acton, is married to actress Nancy Walls, a Cohasset native. The couple and their two children live part-time in Marshfield and have grown so fond of the community that, in 2008, the actor purchased the Marshfield Hills General Store. Tish Vivado, Carell’s sister-in-law, is the store manager.
